Climate Change
The Earth Speaks
By Heather Cofer

The Earth once whispered in winds through the trees.
Now she shouts in wildfires and rising seas.
Her breath once soft as the morning dew.
Now gasps through the smoke in the skies once blue.

She gave us rivers, clear and wide, Mountains proud and oceans tide.
As we are too busy, blind and late.
Traded her love for greed and hate.

Plastic shores and melting ice, heatwaves burning isn't it nice?
Forests fall with silent cries, while corals die before our eyes.

She cries in storms, she pleads in flame
but we scroll up, blind to her pain.
She is begging and pleading, through floods and drought
while we stare at our screens and tune her out.

Yet she waits, but not out of fear
but hope that we might finally hear
because silence is now a choice we make.
we chose to be quiet, which is a huge mistake

Now she is breaking, she is bruised
and time is something we cannot lose
so let us rise together, let's make a stand
don't look away grab her hand
the earth isn't just where we live
she is alive and she forgives
